Who Wants To Do Bible Study???

I have recently begun reading some of my friends’ blogs and I remember how much I miss the fellowship we had back before I moved to Del Rio. I am still convinced that God has me here for a purpose. I have tried to start up a local Bible study here, but it just has never gotten off the ground.

So I have decided to throw out the idea of a Blogger Bible Study of sorts and see if we get some responses.

Here’s the plan…
I want to team up with some other bloggers and dig our way through parts of the Bible.

At this point, I’m not concerned about what book to begin with (I love Romans, Ephesians, Hebrews, James, and Peter’s epistles, but whatever is fine with me). Ijust know that I want to start.

We can trade off with one person taking a section (chapter?) at a time, commenting on it, letting the discussion run around for a little while, and then someone else going to the next section/chapter.

If you don’t have a blog, but are interested in being a part, you can always comment, and if you want to write a study, I’d be more than happy to post whatever you have on my blog.

So my questions are:

  1. What book?
  2. Who goes first?
  3. Does this sound like a good idea?

Discuss it in the comments…

Therefore Submit to God

So I am working on reading the New Testament this month. I did very well for the first three days.

Then I went to San Antonio last weekend and fell behind because of that. Then I began focusing on praying a whole lot as I prepared my sermon for Wednesday night. The sermon went really well, but I fell behind in my reading plan.

So I have to ask myself…what is the priority?

Am I reading the New Testament in a month just to be able to say that I did it (again), or am I reading it so that I can hear from God?

I believe that I am reading it so that I can better hear from God. If I am spending time in focused prayer, than I am hearing from God. So the plan has backed off just a bit. I am behind, but I plan to continue reading quite a bit each day. I may not finish by January 31st, but I will finish before the end of February for sure.

But the whole point is to draw me closer to God, and I can definitely say that this year has started out by being great in that respect.

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning andyour joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. – James 4:7-10

Stewardship

I am scheduled to preach on the subject of stewardship for the next two Wednesday Evening services at Del Rio Christian Fellowship.

Over the next two and a half weeks, I will be posting some blog entries on the subject. Please feel free to give me feedback on what I write!

At this point, the plan is to teach on:

Stewardship Part 1: A Living Sacrifice - 01/09/08
Stewardship Part 2: A Lifestyle Sacrifice - 01/16/08

The way it works is that we have sort of an informal, question and answer kind of deal. Much of my own life experience will come into play and be included in these discussions. These both look to be among the most personal sermons I have prepared to date.

I am really excited about where God is taking me this year, and I really do hope you can join us!
